It doesn't have multiple time zone feature. I was using the example of the time
tone feature we have here at one o'clock on CBC radio, as does the BBC. You
could use the telephone time or WWV is it in the U.S. what ever you use to set
a watch or clock. My point was that you press the button back in at the instant
you want the watch to begin.

The watch is said to be good for depths of 30 metres or 100 feet which ever you
prefer. I wouldn't know, I prefer not to dunk a watch what ever the claims but
it is satisfying to know the odd mistake should not be damaging.

The big deal for me was to have a watch with an alarm and one I could in either
noisy environments like on the street in traffic or in private environments
like meetings or my clinical setting where keeping track of time is necessary
but not necessarily something you want your clients to know you are doing.

I am guessing that this is a permissible topic because the moderator is
  participating.

  Dale,
How do I find out the time?
You mentioned setting it with a radio, how does that work?
Can blind folks utilize the multiple time-zone feature?
Are you aware of an on-line users manual?
Because I participate in a lot of water activities, I really like the idea
  of water resistance.

I will assume you are to synchronize the time to the one o'clock time
  signal:

Pull out the stem, place a finger at the 1 o'clock position and wait for the
  continuous buzz.

remove the finger and place it at the 12 o'clock position and wait for the
sequence of buzzes then remove the finger. now wait for the signal and when
you hear the time signal on the radio, press the stem in.

The only function the blind cannot perform is to synchronize the visible
hands with the tactile system if they get out of phase. I suspect that there
are actually two watches within the device, a visible one and the tactile
system and it is possible to get them out of sync.

Dale, How does a blind individual set the time? It's a little too
  expensive
for me. However, I have a friend who would be interested if he could set
  it
  himself.

It is called the silen-t. I got one while at the last BlindHandyman
get-together in Houston and really like it. Quite expensive though.

  Hi,
I just tried a search on Tissot tactile watch and it's all coming up
touch screne oriented. Visual watches that are controlled by touch. Could
you tell the model of your watch so I could search more successfully?
  Thanks.

Dale, I bought a Tissot watch (pronounced Teeso) a couple of years ago,
  and
  absolutely love it.
It is not a Braille watch, nor a talking watch. It is tactile. Vibrations
around the edge of the crystal indicate the time. The crystal doesn't need
to hinge or latch, and is sealed.

I have found this watch to be accurate, able to take a hit, and is
  good-looking... Or, so I'm told.

It does have an alarm feature. The alarm is also vibratory... Therefore,
  silent.

It's a great watch, and of much higher quality than we're used to in our
talking or Braille watches. It's a Swiss watch.

It is, however, pricey... Coming in at approximately $369.00, in U.S.
  dollars.

You can go to the Beyond Sight website to get more information on it. I
believe that's where I bought it... But, can't remember at the moment.

They do send a text CD to explain the operations of the watch.
It comes in a beautiful case, as well.

  I have been cruising the
Web looking for a braille watch, preferably with alarm.

I had one from the CNIB several years ago which failed early on, a Seiko.

While on holiday my watch quit so I bought a new one in Calgary, has a
  sort
of pin type roller to hold the lid shut but it doesn't. Every time I tear
off a sheet of paper towel it flips open, every fast movement flips it
  open
and I seem to be swinging my left arm around a lot, certainly a lot more
  than ever I realized.

At the time I bought it I noticed that the lid rattled and I remarked on
  it,
the woman in the Calgary store brought out another which rattled too so I
decided it to be a feature rather than a deficiency in design.

It may be that there is no longer an alarm watch in braille, certainly
  CNIB
doesn't sell any. A google search delivers several results but they all
  seem
  to offer talking watches.

This is not really a "fixit" question however there are a couple of
  hundred
blind people on this list which spreads the net fairly wide.

  Thanks for your indulgence.
