So, what are folks' favorite absorbents for cleaning up oil spills?

I used up the last of my "Avenger Sorb" last night in the aftermath
of the Great April Fools' Day Oil Flood. The 1-800 number on the
container no longer goes to Bioremediation Products Inc in Cincinnati,
the manufacturer's name on the label, and I've been unable to find
any contact info for them.

Thanks

Steve

I have an 04 S that won't start. Had it brought in under warranty, they said
squirrels had eaten through a fuel pump electrical line. Price was $1,200 to
fix. Frayed wires...well, I can fix. I get it back home, no evidence of
rodents, the fuel lines and wires are all behind corrugated plastic tubing.
I hear a fuel pumping buzzing like crazy, but it is in the engine
compartment, or just below it. If this car has a pump in the tank, then
there is a secondary one I am hearing. If I can see no damage, and
everything is covered in this piping, how did a squirrel or chipmunk or what
have you get to this 'mysterious' area? I don't see it. The tank will not
accept gas, but the dash reads ZERO gasoline. Could the tank be filled with
air so as not to let it down the chute? Perhaps the tank is full (although
it was near empty when I sent it up to the dealership) and the rodents ate
through the sending wires for the whole outfit. BUT, I don't see it. Any
ideas?

Alex

go back to dealership & demand to see the damage which the
rodents caused before you authorize any work on the car. when
they show you (if it's there at all) then you tell then you refuse the
work & you'll do it yourself (assuming it's as simple as wires
chewed which can be spliced back together).

if they prove that it was rodents, see if BMW makes "marten-proof wiring"
which they used to for E28 (unlikely) and post pics of the damage to Mini
forums.

if they prove to be crooks, out them everywhere you can & get it into the local
media. I can see "The Investigators" or the "Action Team" or whatever your
local news' attack team is called loving this - probably get the story all put
together complete with incredulous quotes from the dealer just in time
for May sweeps.

I tend to agree with Ben, but I'd also like to mention that in my 25
years of Pro BMW tech'ing, I have seen numerous cases of rodent
damage... Frequently, you can even tell what sort of rodent based on
teeth marks and scatological evidence.

If only fuel pump wires are at fault, ya, you can probably fix them
with splicing, but I'd bet the dealer is estimating based on
replacing the entire sub-harness.
