That's about what I paid for a new Netgear RT314 (equivalent of Elaine's
new box) on Amazon a couple months ago, including some $40 coupon my wife
found.

The latest Amazon deal we came across is a $150 gift cert if we'd switch a
phone line to MCI long distance. Since we're happy with the DSL for a
couple months now (no insight about providers in Eastern Mass--Darth
Verizon was my only choice) and had never bothered to shut off the
now-obsolete second line, it made sense. We did a pile of christmas
shopping for inlaws and incidentals this week--videos, books, CDs, baby
toys, $17. We'll probably shut the line off before the next billing
cycle, unless we get another offer from someone else... :)

So, if you're establishing new DSL service, and you weren't using LD on
your soon-to-be extraneous modem line anyway (or you don't care who
provides the service), you can get the router for free.
