Hi All,

I have never seen either the "Cannot run this version of KeySoft" or "Cannot
access the Flash Disk" error messages, and I have KeySoft 5.0 burned into ROM
and am running KeySoft 5.1 from my Flash Disk. I will, as Beth also has, go
through my software experiences with the BrailleNote since receiving mine in
the hopes that it may be of some use in resolving this issue that many of you
seem to be experiencing. Here goes.

I received my BrailleNote BT 32 (a Braille style keyboard and a 32-cell Braille
display) in March of 2003. In ROM was KeySoft version 3.07 Build 2145, while
version 4.01 Build 1988 was running. As KeySoft version 5.0 had become
available in August of that same year, I downloaded and installed this version
myself from the Software Distribution Web site. However, unlike Beth, I did
not use ActiveSync Installer; rather, I downloaded the upgrade directly using
KeyWeb, and although I have a Compact Flash card, I downloaded the file to the
Downloads folder of the Flash Disk. All went well. In December of 2003, I had
gone into an attachment of an e-mail I had downloaded onto the BrailleNote
using KeyMail, and upon selecting to Read it, I was told that "Not enough disk
space is available to access this file." Being unaware as of yet to the
circumstances of this message and how it is properly fixed, I did what I had
always done up to that point to fix any error messages of whose meaning I was
unfamiliar, which was to perform a Reset with no keys held down; in other
words, I pressed the Reset button. I don't believe it would have made a
difference what Reset I had performed because, upon beeping to confirm
execution of a Reset, I heard nothing more from the unit, including any form of
static or the start-up chime. As my BrailleNote was unmistakably inoperable, I
was forced to send it in for repair; unfortunately, I had never suspected a
break and had never done a backup, which meant I lost half the school year (I
now perform an incremental backup at least once a day). My unit came back in
one week, and I discovered that I had KeySoft 5 running. As Build 24 is the
Flash Disk upgrade and Build 25 is the ROM image, and I had Build 25, this
means I now had KeySoft 5 burned into ROM. So, from about the middle of
December to early March, I had KeySoft 5 burned into ROM and was not running an
upgrade from the Flash Disk. When version 5.1 was released in March, again, as
before, I downloaded the upgrade from the SDW site using KeyWeb and stored it
in the Downloads folder of the Flash Disk. I installed it, and ever since, I
have been running KeySoft 5.1 Build 19 from the Flash Disk and have had KeySoft
5.0 Build 25 in ROM.

As I said earlier, I am unable to replicate this issue, as I have neither read
on the Braille display nor heard with speech either of these error messages.
My experiences differ somewhat from Beth's, and I don't know about the rest of
you, but that is the status of my unit. Like Ann and Mary Ellen, I have never
gotten the "Cannot run this version of KeySoft error", so I have no idea why
many of you are getting it, but I hope you find this helpful. Thanks for
reading.

Regards,

Maria
