I said before, and this goes for child abuse as well:
"...but it should be primarily by reducing ignorance
(genuine or deliberate), poverty, substance abuse and
cultural schizophrenia ("Don't do 'It,' but be a sexy
hottie who makes them all pant after you!")."  Poverty
is only one factor, and those who grow up in abusive
homes are at much higher risk of becoming abusers
themselves (I want to say 5+ times more likely, but
that could be _way_ off.)
 
Neglect, abandonment and abuse in the sense of child
labor/child marriage etc. are, I believe, more
prevalent in poorer situations/countries, but sexual
abuse has no relation whatsoever to socioeconomic
status, and - as below - it is appallingly common.

When I was a student, the figures for sexual abuse
were somewhere in the range of 1-in-5-to-7 (girls) and
1-in-10 (boys).  I suspect it is no better now.
