Invading Iraq in 2003.

Too easy.

Too easy, indeed.

1. Neither the Saudi's nor U.S. oil interests wanted to see a close working relationship between a prominent EU member (France) and the nations with proven oil reserves of 60 BBL (Russia) and 115 BBL (Iraq). This takes on added significance when combined with the fact that the Saudis have some $200 B invested in the U.S.

2. Hussein was an embarrassment to Islam/the Middle East. The Saudis probably expected him to toe the line after his defeat in the first gulf war and were probably very embarrassed when he attempted to assassinate GHW Bush.

3. Most of the 9/11 terrorists were Saudi nationals. Going along with the invasion was in payment for the Bush administration deflecting criticism away from them in the wake of the attack. Consider also that we were probably well within our rights to freeze the assets of a nation responsible for brutally killing some 3000 of our people.
