Yes, that is the traditional
way.
Another way is to brew a lighter bee first, and then reuse the yeast
you leave in the bucket when raking over to the secondary bucket. That is a very
potent starter! Of course, if you happen to infect your first beer, the second
won't stand a chance, so do this only after you know your procedures
work.
For the price of one yeast, you get two
beers!
