My impression of certifications is that the ones that hold weight with
employers are the ones that -- well, the ones that you have to shell out
cold, hard cash to prove that you're worthy of having it. Do things like
Brainbench certs carry any weight? I highly doubt it.

Yeah, and maybe the costs should be as low as possible, but this IMHO is one
of the things you definitly shouldn't cut back on. If the price is completely
accounted for in detail on the website, I doubt it would be a problem for most.


As long as the rest of the costs is very low, this is necassary and not taking
advantage of people.

And getting back to what started the thread, if the certification body designed the test with the current documentation in mind, and provided links to said documentation, then that would go a long way toward making the BSD certification that much more attractive. One of my suggestions to Jeremy was that the cert tests test your abilities to perform common tasks that sys admins will have to perform, not your ability to memorize all the port number/service combinations or command line flags for find. That's what reference documentation is for.
