There's currently a project to use DC to create Virtual Box images that's pre-installed with Open Solaris (or your choice of packages from IPS repo(s)). I think that's similar to what you are describing above. A proposal on how we plan to implement that will be posted soon. We welcome your comments and suggestions when we post our proposal.
