I've heard a rumour that the number of boats making the trip each day
will be severely limited - a figure of 6 was mentioned to me. Have you
heard this?

Is pre-booking going to be mandatory? If so, why? I know BW have
escorted boats in the past (allegedly) because of problems with the
local kids but is it so bad that unescorted passage is just not an
option? I've never done this stretch but I'm hoping to soon...

Hi Steve
I (along with 4 other boats) were escorted through the "bandit country" in 2006.
The 2 BW people who "escorted" us, drove from swing bridge to swing bridge
along the route and operated them for us. They did this on the way back too.
We didn't see any trouble along the way (mind you, it was term time). What we
did see was people hanging out of their windows to look at boats going past
.... seems they don't see many.
The only problem we encounted was all the weed, shopping trolley's, fridges,
bikes etc ... mostly under the bridges.
(I knock the boat into neutral as I pass under the bridges, just in case) ...
works for me.
