No it is because of the electrically operated bridges that BW work on this 
stretch I have been in in a convoy of over twenty boats that made it to the 
docks and then onward to Eastham for the 1998 national in Salford Quays.CKP

I've heard a rumour that the number of boats making the trip each day 
will be severely limited - a figure of 6 was mentioned to me. Have you 
heard this?

Is pre-booking going to be mandatory? If so, why? I know BW have 
escorted boats in the past (allegedly) because of problems with the 
local kids but is it so bad that unescorted passage is just not an 
option? I've never done this stretch but I'm hoping to soon...
