Have you tried getting an I-Plate from BT

Thanks for the reply Graham,

No I haven't considered this option, experimentation has shown that I have
to remove the lower plate of the master socket and plug into the main
socket behind to get any internet connection at all. In such a case I don't
know
if an 'I' plate would help. Also I am not a BT Total Broadband
subscriber, I pay BT for the line rental and AOL for Broadband and 'phone calls
 and
am one year into a new 18 month contract with AOL. Breaking the existing
contract, taking up a new deal and getting an 'I' plate seems a bit extreme,
though it may have to come to that. However a 1.5Mb increase on my present
nominal 'best possibe' 256kb (but actual 150kb) is not to be sneezed at.
Sceptic that I am, I doubt that this kind of increase would be nothing less
than miraculous. What an I saying, a reliable 150kb link available during
the daytime and early evening would be a great improvement on my present
service.

Footnote: It doesn't mean much to me but there are mumblings in the
village about the lines from the exchange being aluminium rather than copper -
does this explain anything to the experts?
