TUNDRA SWAN GOLDEN EAGLE NORTHERN GOSHAWK NORTHERN SHRIKE TOWNSEND’S SOLITAIRE BOHEMIAN WAXWING RUSTY BLACKBIRD EVENING GROSBEAK COMMON REDPOLL HOARY REDPOLLPINE SISKIN Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge (MNWR) and Montezuma Wetlands Complex (MWC) ------------ No reports this week. Onondaga County ------------ 3/1: 30 EVENING GROSBEAKS were seen on Shakham Road at the Onondaga/Cortland County line. 3/5: 2 RUSTY BLACKBIRDS were seen in Tully. 5 KESTRELS were seen in the Town of Van Buren in the Jack’s Reef/Plainville area. Oneida County ------------ 2/26: A belated report of 2 to 4 BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS on Graffenberg Road in New Hartford. 3/4: 1 PINE SISKIN was seen with Common Redpolls at a feeder in Waterville. Cortland County ------------ 3/5: At least 2 HOARY REDPOLLS were seen in with Common Redpolls at a feeder in Scott. Oswego County ------------ 3/1: A NORTHERN SHRIKE was seen on Leihigh Road south of Pulaski. 3/6: 64 TUNDRA SWANS were in the fields at the Elvic Farm on County Rt. 54 north of Phoenix. Derby Hill ------------ The Hawk Watch at Derby Hill is now officially started. Seth Cutright has returned for a second season as the Hawk Counter. Hawks were counted on three days this week, 3/1 3/3 and 3/5. 11 species and 237 individuals were counted. Species seen this week were TURKEY VULTURE, BALD EAGLE, NORTHERN HARRIER, SHARP-SHIN HAWK, COOPERS HAWK, NORTHERN GOSHAWK, RED-SHOULDERED HAWK, RED-TAILED HAWK, ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK, GOLDEN EAGLE, and KESTREL. Jefferson County ------------ The TOWNSEND’S SOLITAIRE was seen on three occasions this week, 2/28 3/3 and 3/4. The location is the same, State Park Road just off County Rt.57 on Point Peninsula. New arrivals - The following birds are what I believe to be migrants up to this point and not overwintering birds.
