Greetings. This is the Syracuse Area Rare Bird Alert for the week of 

January 10, 2022

Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge (MNWR) and Montezuma Wetlands Complex (MWC)

     1/16: A MARSH WREN was seen at Carncross Road.







Cayuga County

------------




     1/16: A SNOWY OWL was seen at West Barrier Bar in Fairhaven.







Onondaga County

------------




     1/10: A SNOWY OWL was seen from Rt. 11 just north of Rt. 31 in Cicero.

     1/11: A WOOD DUCK was seen at the Inner Harbor off of Kirkpatrick Street 
in Syracuse.

     1/13: An EASTERN TOWHEE was heard on Reeves Road at the south end on Cross 
Lake.A LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL was seen at the Minoa Quarry on North Manlius 
Road in Minoa.

     1/14: 2 BLACK VULTURES were seen at the OCCRA site in Jamesville. 3 were 
seen on the 15th. and the 16th. A LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL was seen at the 
Inner Harbor.

     1/16: An AMERICAN WIGEON was seen at Mercer Park on the Seneca River in 
Baldwinsville. A FISH CROW was heard near the State Fair Grounds. An ICELAND 
GULL was seen at the Inner Harbor. 1 WHITE-CROWNED SPARROW continues in the 
Marshy Spits area south of the Honeywell Center on the west side of Onondaga 
lake.







Oswego County

------------




     1/12: A NORTHERN PINTAIL was seen in the Oswego River in Phoenix. A 
NORTHERN SHRIKE was seen on Thompson Road south of Oswego.







Madison County

------------




     1/12: A GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE was seen on Ditchbank Road north of 
Canastota. A SLATY-BACKED GULL continues at the Madison County Landfill south 
of Canastota.A WHITE-CROWNED SPARROW was seen on Harwood Island Road in 
Canastota.

     1/15: A GOLDEN EAGLE was seen from Indian Lookout Road north of Cazenovia. 
50 SNOW BUNTINGS and an ICELAND GULL were seen on Ditchbank Road north of 
Canastota.

     1/16: 5 WHITE-CROWNED SPARROWS and a LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL were seen at 
Ditchbank Road.

     1/17: 1 ICELAND GULL and 25 SNOW BUNTINGS were seen at Ditchbank Road.







Oneida County

------------




     1/15: 3 BLACK VULTURES were seen at the Kirkland Town Park.

     1/15: A SNOWY OWL was seen on Perimeter Road at the old Air Base in Rome.







Herkimer County

------------

     1/15: A SNOW BUNTING was seen at a feeding site in Salisbury Corners.
