Thanks for the quick response I did do what you suggested about creating a vlan and doing the sh vtp status on the 3560 and it definitely didn't propagate this was before I sent my email. In regards to NTP the ISP links arent live yet so I can't do NTP. This is a brand new build for a clinic in Angola . So I can actually do it at any time. There is no password I didnt configure one i wanted to get the basics working before adding security as at this time there is no one on the network but me. I will cut and paste the VTP domain name and see what happens. Once again thanks Keith
From: [EMAIL PROTECTED]: [EMAIL PROTECTED]; [EMAIL PROTECTED]: RE: [OSL | CCIE_RS] VTP not propagatingDate: Thu, 21 Feb 2008 10:05:10 -0500 I think you may be looking at two different things... So start with the basics. On your 6509's, create a new vlan. Go to your 3560's and simply do "show vtp status" (check the latest update) and "show vlan brief" to see whether that number appears in the list at all. THAT will tell you if you have a VTP issue. Next, look at your trunk configuration to see if it's propogated, and the show spanning-tree. That will tell you functionality. For a new vlan and new SVI, I'd anticipate less than a minute for spanning-tree to figure out what was going on. Based on your show commands down there, your VTP hasn't propogated well. On a side note, I'd enable NTP or something to make the time consistent between devices. (Modified on 3/1/93 doesn't help much!) Your domain name appears the same (unless there's a space at the end of one side), but is there a password? You have pruning enabled on the server switch, this SHOULD be propogated to the clients if configured correctly. Try to take some time in a maintenance window (I assume you're in healthcare due to your VTP domain name) and change the VTP name and any password informatoin via cut/paste to assure it's the same on all devices. See what happens. The problem I am having is on my IDF switches even though I have created the vlans on the VTP Server which is one of my Core switches and the rest are clients. When I create the INT VLAN it still shows down down. So I have to covert the vtp client to server and then create the vlan on the switches local database which defeats the purpose of easier administration. I have checked to make sure trunking is on and it is I statically defined the trunks so there is negotiation and the encapsulation is the same. Spanning tree looks correct but the clients revision numbers are not matching up with the sever. The other core switch does have the same vtp config but the 3560s dont. I will paste some output to see if that helps Thanks Keith output below________________________________\ Core_A#sh spann vlan 10VLAN0010 Spanning tree enabled protocol rstp Root ID Priority 32768 Address 001b.0d60.b00a This bridge is the root Hello Time 2 sec Max Age 20 sec Forward Delay 15 sec Bridge ID Priority 32768 Address 001b.0d60.b00a Hello Time 2 sec Max Age 20 sec Forward Delay 15 sec Aging Time 300Interface Role Sts Cost Prio.Nbr Type---------------- ---- --- --------- -------- --------------------------------Gi2/28 Desg FWD 4 128.156 P2pGi2/29 Desg FWD 4 128.157 P2pGi2/30 Desg FWD 4 128.158 P2pGi2/31 Desg FWD 4 128.159 P2pGi2/32 Desg FWD 4 128.160 P2pPo1 Desg FWD 1 128.1665 P2p sh int trunk Port Mode Encapsulation Status Native vlanGi2/28 on 802.1q trunking 1Gi2/29 on 802.1q trunking 1Gi2/30 on 802.1q trunking 1Gi2/31 on 802.1q trunking 1Gi2/32 on 802.1q trunking 1Po1 on 802.1q trunking 1Port Vlans allowed on trunkGi2/28 1-4094Gi2/29 1-4094 Core_A#sh vtp statVTP Version : 2Configuration Revision : 40Maximum VLANs supported locally : 1005Number of existing VLANs : 25VTP Operating Mode : ServerVTP Domain Name : Clinica_GirassolVTP Pruning Mode : EnabledVTP V2 Mode : DisabledVTP Traps Generation : DisabledMD5 digest : 0x56 0x79 0x21 0x6D 0xAC 0x41 0xEB 0x94Configuration last modified by 127.0.0.51 at 2-21-08 08:59:27Local updater ID is 127.0.0.51 on interface EO0/0 (first interface found)Core_A# IDF_G4_SW1#sh spanning vlan 10VLAN0010 Spanning tree enabled protocol rstp Root ID Priority 32768 Address 001b.0d60.b00a Cost 4 Port 1 (GigabitEthernet1/0/1) Hello Time 2 sec Max Age 20 sec Forward Delay 15 sec Bridge ID Priority 32778 (priority 32768 sys-id-ext 10) Address 001b.d583.7a80 Hello Time 2 sec Max Age 20 sec Forward Delay 15 sec Aging Time 300Interface Role Sts Cost Prio.Nbr Type---------------- ---- --- --------- -------- --------------------------------Gi1/0/1 Root FWD 4 128.1 P2pGi1/0/2 Altn BLK 4 128.2 P2pGi2/0/1 Altn BLK 4 128.53 P2pGi2/0/2 Altn BLK 4 128.54 P2pGi2/30 1-4094Gi2/31 1-4094Gi2/32 1-4094Po1 1-4094Port Vlans allowed and active in management domainGi2/28 1-21Gi2/29 1-21Gi2/30 1-21Gi2/31 1-21Gi2/32 1-21Port Vlans allowed and active in management domainPo1 1-21Port Vlans in spanning tree forwarding state and not prunedGi2/28 1-21Gi2/29 1-21Gi2/30 1-21Gi2/31 1-21Gi2/32 1-21Po1 1-21Core_A# IDF_G4_SW1#sh spanning vlan 10VLAN0010 Spanning tree enabled protocol rstp Root ID Priority 32768 Address 001b.0d60.b00a Cost 4 Port 1 (GigabitEthernet1/0/1) Hello Time 2 sec Max Age 20 sec Forward Delay 15 sec Bridge ID Priority 32778 (priority 32768 sys-id-ext 10) Address 001b.d583.7a80 Hello Time 2 sec Max Age 20 sec Forward Delay 15 sec Aging Time 300Interface Role Sts Cost Prio.Nbr Type---------------- ---- --- --------- -------- --------------------------------Gi1/0/1 Root FWD 4 128.1 P2pGi1/0/2 Altn BLK 4 128.2 P2pGi2/0/1 Altn BLK 4 128.53 P2pGi2/0/2 Altn BLK 4 128.54 P2p IDF_G4_SW1#sh vtp statVTP Version : 2Configuration Revision : 3Maximum VLANs supported locally : 1005Number of existing VLANs : 6VTP Operating Mode : ClientVTP Domain Name : Clinica_GirassolVTP Pruning Mode : DisabledVTP V2 Mode : DisabledVTP Traps Generation : DisabledMD5 digest : 0xB4 0xCA 0x6D 0x6C 0xE1 0x18 0x96 0xDAConfiguration last modified by 10.3.56.9 at 3-1-93 01:06:37Port Mode Encapsulation Status Native vlanGi1/0/1 on 802.1q trunking 1Gi1/0/2 on 802.1q trunking 1Gi2/0/1 on 802.1q trunking 1Gi2/0/2 on 802.1q trunking 1Port Vlans allowed on trunkGi1/0/1 1-4094Gi1/0/2 1-4094Gi2/0/1 1-4094Gi2/0/2 1-4094Port Vlans allowed and active in management domainGi1/0/1 1,10Gi1/0/2 1,10Gi2/0/1 1,10Gi2/0/2 1,10Port Vlans in spanning tree forwarding state and not prunedGi1/0/1 1,10Gi1/0/2 noneGi2/0/1 none --More-- Port Vlans in spanning tree forwarding state and not prunedGi2/0/2 noneIDF_G4_SW1#
