Thanks for all the input everyone. I can see positives for leaving it late to book and doing it well in advance. All I know is that since I booked 3 months in advance, my study motivation has gone through the roof and I don't find excuses not to spend 8 hours doing labs 3 -4 days a week. It really has worked for me to book in advance.
