welll... affirmative action is intended to compensate for this. But
yes, it would be better if neighborhoods were integrated, inner city
schools weren't about institutionalization rather than education, and
all children were challenged from an early age. Imho negative
expections are a particularly insidious form of racism. But in the
meantime, there IS a problem whether you see it or not. Less of a
problem than there was in 1965, when the idea of a black man being a
system administrator at an agency like Sandia would be unthinkable,
and less than thre was in 1975 even, when they made the infamous Star
Trek episode where Kirk becomes a woman and therefore is *obviously*
unfit for duty..... but there's still a problem.
