I'd have to agree with your doctor. If you're 325 lbs I think you should try to reduce your weight, even if it's all muscle. Being a muscle head means a lifetime of maintenance, easy for someone in high school to agree to but adults usually know there will be many breaks in the workout regimen. As for diabetes, I know most studies say sugar has nothing to do with it but all nutritionists will tell you it does. As processed foods become much more prevalent in our culture so does diabetes. These empty foods cause constant sugar spike throughout the day. These spike make your pancreas react quickly and causes undo stress. Eventually you get hypoglycemia, which could mean your pancreas is over-reacting. If you don't correct it at this point it'll lead to hyperglycemia which is your pancreas has stopped working. Theses are the beginning stages of diabetes, meaning if caught you can correct it. The problem is it's difficult to diagnose. You need to take fasting tests every few hours for about eight. That's probably why they say 12 million people in the US don't even know they have diabetes or find out when it's too late.
By the way I'm down 15 pounds in three weeks on the South Beach diet, I highly recommend it.
