Northern Canada really is something else... and it is -so- different from province to province. Northern BC has mountains and ocean, Northern Saskatchewan has forests and some of the best fishing in the world, etc... The only problem is that there is a great deal of isolation, poverty and the weather can be pretty extreme from furious heat to bitter cold.
