I got my first full time programming job when I was 19, before that I was in school so it didn't matter I was only part time. My first full time job was still paid by the hour because of regulations for the company I was. The parent company owned a few public utilities in the state, so there were various requirements that had to be met as a result, so there we got overtime, but the expectation was 8 full hours of work a day.
After that the expectation was 8 full hours, but I was putting in more like 12-15, then 4 more or so over the weekend, we still took about an hour for lunch, and there was still a reasonable expectation for us to be there by 9. > -----Original Message----- > From: Jim Davis [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] > > Maybe I'm spoiled (okay, probably I'm spoiled) but the whole situation > is vaguely unsettling.
