You know..in a way I think it was a good idea.
And there certainly were tense moments. Just glimpsing the monster
etc. was a good trick that worked to build tension and suspense in the
movie.
The fact that you followed a small group who didn't really know what
was happening, rather than a hero scientist or marine etc. was also
another
neat idea very reminiscent of The Sign (single family surviving an
alien invasion cut off from everyone else).

But the camera....YUCK! I can see they were going for the Blair Witch
Effect, but they really needed to tone it down.
It reminded me of those shows like Cops etc. where the camera is
always pointing away from what you want to see, only this was worse
due to the horrid jerky motion
that I can totally see making people ill in a dark cinema. That was
such a bad call, but I guess there was no way to fix it late in the
game.

I don't feel the movie was a complete loss though, I would give it a
5.5 to 6 out of 10. (10 being best).

They tried something different.
The movie has made about 41 million so far.
It cost about 25 million to make plus marketing costs, which were
mostly viral which costs a bit less.
The Sequel is already in the works.
