Have you even been in the military? If you had then you know you can't treat this like a software project or construction project. There is a saying in the military, every battle plan is good until the first shots are fired. Combat is not something you can apply this shit to. It is dynamic, ever changing. Hell, in Desert Storm, Gen Schwartzkopf had a plan that ended up changing at the last minute. My unit along with the rest of Seventh Corps had to make an early turn toward Kuwait because the Iraqi's were retreating faster than we had anticipated, and we need to move up there to be a blocking force. You think you can just get on the radio and in a matter of minutes, tens of thousands of soldiers, trucks, tanks and helicopters can just suddenly turn? It does not happen that way.
OIF is even more dynamic due to the ever changing tactics of the insurgency. There are goals for this conflict and they have been stated before on this list. The ultimate goal is the have a new government installed and running the country, a military that is capable both tactically and technically to defend their country, and a police force that can keep law and order in the cities. We have teams that are specially designed to get these things done, it is just not going to happen over night. As Loath pointed out, goals have been achieved and more will follow. So stop trying to assume that wars are run like corporations. They have not, are not nor will they ever be run like a corporation. Better yet, instead of assuming these things, head on down to your local recruiter, enlist and then let us know what you think. I am sure you will change your mind. But since we all know this will never happen, stop assuming. Oh, and if I don't respond until later on tonight your your response, that is because I am working and don't usually get to read my email until after 5:00 PM CST. I am not ducking the issue.
