And dug the country out of the largest economic depression it ever experienced. Over 1/3rd were unemployed. People were starving in the streets. and that was directly a result of the extreme laissez-faire policies that were previously followed. I think that there is good evidence that if Roosevelt had not done so this country would have been known as the People's Democratic Republic of the United States, or the National Socialist Republic of America. > > That's what a liberal calls responsible economics. Giving tax breaks to the very rich while forcing every one else into poverty is not responsible. It seems that over the last 40 years, whenever there has been a republican administration, the government has gone into debt and has run up significant deficits.
