In a market economy I would be surprised if it cost more than $100,
and so we'd just write a check or slap down a visa.

But I'm dumb in thinking that's a good solution.

Because, I'm told, we should use the "public option" route which is
WAY more efficient:

(1.) The IRS confiscates the money from all of our paychecks

(2.) After a small fee and admin costs it deposits your money into the
government's CMS account

(3.) The patient has the MRI.

(4.) The provider sends the bill to the claims warehouse for payment

(5.) The warehouse acknowledge reception and performs "front-end edits"

(6.) Once eligibility is confirmed, the system confirms the provider

(7.) The claim is adjudicated

(8.) A PRA and EOB are sent out

(9.) The claim is posted.

(10.) Payment for a $1500 MRI is sent.

Oh, didn't I tell you?  Prices went up again.

Good thing we didn't use that pesky market capitalism.
