Everything I've read says otherwise.  If you put content on different
domains (sub-domains are considered different "domains" in the eyes of the
crawlers) then you are basically saying that it's content that isn't part of
your main site and should be treated independently.  If you want the content
to be treated as part of your site, put it in a folder under the primary
domain.  If it should be its own site and the content isn't much related to
the main site, put it on its own (sub-) domain.
