Definitely!

 I just went through a difficult government legal process, and it was
a few older emails, from the beginning stages of the project that
saved me. I'm a "pack rat" when it comes to saving documentation, and
it has saved me, my bosses, and my team on more than one occasion.

My motto is "if you say it, it doesn't really exist until I see the
email or the contract".
