While I don't think it's ALL about the oil, it is definitely not about the people. I've mentioned Darfur numerous times as someplace we should be. Instead of action, all there has been from the UN, US, and everyone else has been useless talk. I blame the Arab league for the lack of action in the UN but I also blame us for not pushing for it.
In this world of the internet, a live feed camera crew with bodyguards showing what's happening in Darfur (and other places) as they happen would go far in changing world sentiment. The ONLY reason the current uprisings in the middle east are important is because they have adequate press. Otherwise they would be just another entry in the long list of failed uprisings.
