If pretending to get hurt to draw a penalty is 'part of the game'...that is not a game I wish to partake in, or even spend my time watching.
Most times I have seen someone 'take a dive', the ref does nothing but call a penalty - while the player who was just writhing in pain on the field gets up and runs away like nothing happened. Sorry, in my opinion, that is not 'gamesmanship', its cheating or, at the very least, an attempt at cheating.
