I looked at the Kindles.. the small version (similar to the Nook) and the
DX. DX size all the same. The smaller version, like the Nook, was just too
small for me.

+1. All my textbooks for school are PDF. I typically will rotate the
Kindle to 'landscape' to be able to read small text..stupid old eyes.

For what it was designed for....an eBook reader...it is a great device. If
you need to do more, its not for you.

Jacob the Nook might be a better choice - assuming you do not need a big
screen.
