MJ was a Motown artist. All of the Motown music is considered a
sub-class of rock. I agree. James Jamerson, who played bass on most
of the Motown stuff is also in the Hall is a sideman. He had more
influence on rock bass players than just about anyone ever.

MJ was a much a rock artist as Chuck Berry or Little Richard (whose
act he copped). Ask any rock band if they weren't influenced by Chuck
Berry.
