However many forms of obesity are not just a matter of eating properly
or exercising. Also like in many places if you have not learned what
is healthy and how to balance intake with exercise etc., and all your
food choices are unhealthy ones, then chances of  becoming obese is
very good.

The point is that obesity is not a "moral" choice as many seem to
think, but a result of long term social and behavioral conditioning
processes. Funny thing though if you look at the food industry, high
fat, high carb, high fructose foods tend to be the most profitable for
the industry. So of course that's going to be pushed, and using the
same very successful techniques that have been a part of US
advertising for the last 50 years.
