Here is my take on it, and one I have seen in many places. He is losing support due to his actions in regards to privacy, in continuing Bush era policies, in the ever growing national debt and the horrible economy. He has shown time and again that he doesn't feel the need to meet his campaign promises (or those given in office) and he is failing to inspire the youth vote and the independent vote the way he did last election, so in traditional wag the dog manner, with Houdini like reflexes, he's changed everyone's focus.
