does show that situations that discourage effortful thought promotes
political conservatism.

According to a recently published journal article in Personality and
Social Psychology Bulletin, Eidelman and others from the University of
Arkansas found that conservatives are more likely not to put a lot of
effort into thought. As they note: "Together these data suggest that
political conservatism may be a process consequence of low-effort
thought; when effortful, deliberate thought is disengaged, endorsement
of conservative ideology increases."
