>From a purely "horsepower" standpoint, I pretty sure that the Xbox has the best specs of the three(p2s,xbox,gc). I think the gamecube is the least powerful.
Xbox has a hardrive. Many games are planned to have additional levels, mods, player models, etc available over the Xbox live service. I don't think the other two consoles will be able to do that. Plus you can rip cd's to mp3 for your own soundtrack if you are so inclined. PS2 has more games than the other two. You can play ps1 games on it as well, so if you have some of those that you want to play, that might figure into your decision. The Xbox is gaining momentum and is starting to develop a good library to choose from. I don't really know about the gc selection. I got an Xbox about a year ago, though I honestly haven't really used it that much in the last 11 months. I play mostly FPS and RTS, and a keyboard and mouse really are the best input devices for that type of stuff. I played halo for a bout a week after I got my Xbox. I tried really hard to like it, but trying to aim was REALLY frustrating for me. It was a relief to go back to AWSD/mouse after that. Depends on what you want to play. In retrospect, I wish I had sunk the money spent into a better video card for my PC, but that's just me. Splinter cell has a pc version out, but the demo crashes to my desktop because I'm running a geForce 256(only supports geforce 2 and above). However, if your pc is lacking, a console is a great interim "fix" if you don't have the ching for a new gaming pc/upgrade. Consoles really shine for sports and fighting games, duking it out with a bud on the couch. But if you like fps or rts, stick with your pc. Also, for multi player, remember you're going to have to run cat5 or a phone line to your living room, which may or may not be a pain. While you can play over 56k, broadband really is needed, especially for quick games like shooters. I'm figuring that no matter which one I get, I'll probably have a good time, but are there any glaring deficiences that I should lookout for? I am leaning towards an Xbox at this moment, but I've flip flopped about 20 times in the last 2 hours.
