It all came to a head on a skiing trip when friends couldn't sleep in the
same room as me. I was that bad. They described it to a bunch of nurses we
got together with and they said I had apnea.
I wasn't heavily overweight then and the throat doctor said it could not be
down to that. He said I had unusually large tonsils. (I've always had
problems with my tonsils on a yearly basis.) I also described that I
couldn't really drive for longer than an hour without having to pull over
and sleep for an hour or so. I would literally be falling asleep at the
wheel (and rarely at work). So it was considered dangerous. You need to
emphasise how dangerous it is to you and I think because it couldn't be
attributed to my weight they had to look elsewhere.
So I was booked in had them out on a Friday, back at work by Tuesday and wow
was I different. Completely different.
PLease note don't have tonsils out on a Friday, go out on a Saturday night
and eat a chilli kebab.......jesus I cried.

My entire twenties were spent half asleep. I finally got the CPAP a few
months before my 30th birthday, and I woke up!
Really??? Hmmm... I have always SUGGESTED that they remove my tonsils,
but the doctors always balk at it, even though they tell me they are
swollen. In addition, I have a weird "flap" on my uvula (the piece at the
back of my mouth that hangs down) and I would want them to try to remove
that flap and my tonsils. I just don't get why they wouldn't?
Adam, did you see an Ear, Nose and Throat specialist to remove your
tonsils? I just don't get why my doctors have been so reluctant to do it...
