Yes, I know what you mean. That's why I went back to
school to get my Computer Science degree. The world is
too reliant on computers, so programmers will always be
needed. I'm just not so sure what is going to happen to
the internet.
The company I work for now just dropped the '.com' from
their name. Yes, it feels like an era is quickly coming
to an end.
I think the biggest blame should go to, once again,
advertising. My stomach turns whenever I try and surf
and get bombarded by ads. Not to mention those banner
ads are what slow down the web so much. My dad has AOL,
I saw it for the first time in two years. Wow is it bad!
AOL have contributed to the destruction of the Internet
as much as any! Television advertising has gotten so bad
that I don't even watch anymore.
I think that is why Allaire is going full force into
Java. Maybe C++ Studio isn't too far off? Who knows.
It can't go away all together, so many people rely on it
for many things. But, I don't think it will be the same.
It will transform into something else. I'm not sure
what, yet. All these internet appliances, our homes will
be plugged in pretty soon. It seems to me that what will
disapear is the era of the 'personal home page'. Big
corporations will take over everything once again. Then,
I'll probably log off for good...just like television.
That's just one person's humble opinion.
