The thought crossed my mind once or twice, but I quickly dismissed it. A
lot of these .com companies that are failing were built on hype and inflated
promises supported by poorly thought out and ineffective business plans.
True, there are a lot of .coms going under, but the net economy certainly
isn't collapsing. Online sales this holiday season were about double last
year's, so that's a good sign. Right now, talking about tanking .coms is
all the fashion, but I have a good feeling that the .coms that go under
today, will be replaced by better ones tomorrow ;) We are just in a
backlash of the .com boom that happened last year. Things should stabilize
soon, I figure.
As a matter of fact, I'm talking with several investors about getting some
funding for my own .com startup. All of them approached me themselves, so
there is still plenty of interest out there. Hopefully, I'll be looking to
hire a CF developer in late Jan / early Feb.

Subject: Net Tanking?
| If you read f*ckedcompany.com, news.com, or just about anything else,
you've
| read about dotcom after dotcom going in the tank. I used to feel confident
| that I could get another CF job -- a better paying CF job -- at a moment's
| notice. However, I've lost that feeling very quickly in the last couple
| months.
|
| Has anyone noticed a slowdown in hiring good CF people (or any other web
| developer, for that matter)? Of course there will always be a need for
good
| coders, but if there are a _lot_ of them looking for work, wages will go
| down.
|
| Am I just extra paranoid right now or does anyone else have a negative
"gut
| feeling" as well?

| Jay
