The height attribute is officially deprecated. And it didn't work in a variety of browsers. Here's a link to a W3C article on using CSS2 to get some height manipulation capabilities, but then CSS2 support is even more spotty. http://www.w3.org/TR/CSS2/tables.html#propdef-table-layout
