Similar concerns were discussed not long ago in some of the OOo lists at
<http://ux.openoffice.org/servlets/ProjectMailingListList>.

Unluckily I encountered bugs that caused the commands to fail (or rather,
Chandler Desktop apparently replaced most of what I removed).

In any case: the mixed interpreations of the words, whatever the reason for
misinterpretation, deserve special attention.

I think we might accommodate both
the correct semantics (I do agree with William and with Delphine)
*and* a dialogue box approach ...

Now I want to go home and play with my dusty old Oliver
<http://www.officemuseum.com/IMagesWWW/1912_Oliver_No._7_OM.jpg> (yes I
really do have crap like this at home), ah just look at that inviting
backspace lever on the right hand side...

Dissociate and Untie were my favourites, Untie because that tiny icon for
collections has the even tinier little bit of string on that tag. On the
other hand I hate tags. But yes let's try to stick with proper semantics...

Extending that thought, with some radio buttons, not perfect:

===== Review appearance in collections =================

The selected item appears in multiple collections.
Please specify the required appearance:

____ Collection _______________________ In __ Remove ___
Dashboard ............................ [ O ] [ - ]
Curiously named menu commands ........ [ O ] [ - ]
The Eight Glossaries of Henry VIII ... [ O ] [ - ]
Things I didn't think of ............. [ O ] [ - ]
Sneaky vacations ..................... [ O ] [ - ]

Hint: a move to the Trash collection
will remove the item from all other collections.

========= [Cancel] == [Move to Trash] == [[Apply]] =====

-- <http://pastebin.ca/1307567> for a monospaced view of that ASCII art.

Now, marrying GTD (no dialogue) with
the option of a dialogue (for those who value dialogues):

* if note is in just one collection:
backspace key removes (moves to Trash)

* if note is in multiple collections:
backspace key removes from the highlighted collection

* if key combination command-backspace (or control-backspace) is used:
        dialogue appears

and ruthlessly but logically:

* the 'Delete' command is no longer a required menu command

        — there is, in the dialogue above, the equivalent Move to Trash

        — and that dialogue appears when command-backspace is keyed

and last but not least:

* in lieu of the 'Delete' command, the menu gains a
        'Review appearance in collections' command
(that is, the title of the draft dialogue above).

Four words probably too long for a command, but
is the logic agreeable?

Thanks for the feedback! Much appreciated.
