you can enable anonymous logins and set up an anonymous user
account with protected status so that none of the settings can be
changed for that anonymous account name.  I think this will
accomplish providing a public view (although it may still happen
in a somewhat roundabout way, but I'm not sure of the
implementation details, so maybe my previous URL would just work
after this is set up).
