Not easily rectified?  Sure it is!  If you really need to make a tight turn, use your right foot to decrease the turning radius.  You can explain to the officer that you were not doing donuts, you were just compensating for the really large turning radius.  ;-)

Thanks for the input,Dave. From what I've read, the loss of turning radius is not something that's easily rectified.

You know, that is the one downside to the conversion -- there is a loss in turning radius.  I've never measured the lock-to-lock difference between my two cars.  It's not a huge loss, but it is noticable.  But if you've driven a modern (95-newer) Chrysler product, I think it still turns tighter than them.  My '96 Neon and a '99 Avenger I rented a couple years ago are awful in terms of turning radius.

I'm not sure if upgrading to the fast-ratio steering box could alleviate some of that, however.

My '70 before the conversion had poly bushings in rear.  On the front, all the ball joints and front-end parts had been replaced in 92 or 93, and I had also replaced the upper (only) bushings.  With the exception of the lower bushings, I had replaced everything up there at least once and my car sees *maybe* 4000-5000 miles a year.  And I had drum brakes.  For me, the conversion was very worthwhile in terms of handling and braking.

My Camino -- the suspension is due for a rebuild -- hopefully this winter.  Admittedly, it's pretty well worn all around.

I've been wanting to make a short video of both cars trying to go through a slalom or some other manuverabilty course so that I could illustrate the difference between stock and the conversion.  I know I would've loved to see something like it before I did mine and I'm sure others would find it interesting/helpful.  Just gotta find a parking lot where they'll let me do it!
