Commonly, consumer electronics are't grounded at all by the AC connection, the only grounding is via the shield of connection cables. The bad news is that often there aren't any obvious signs when this grounding is flawed, digital communication protocols are sometimes able to continue working, maybe at reduced speed even if the connection is half way broken.
