Ed, if you have a moment, can you answer a question. For the automatic
redistribution to take place, don't the two routing protocols, with the same
process i.d. have to be on the same router? Or will they do this when
adjacent? I did a quick lab on this a while back, but during the remodel my
place is a mess and I can't find most my logs ( definitely one of the habits
of the successful CCIE candidate is never remodel your workspace ever :-> )
Also, dare I suggest that with (E)IGRP, the routing process has local
significance, in that it is local only to routers defined within the same
AS/process? :->

When EIGRP and IGRP share the same AS, redistribution in automatic.
However, keep in mind that EIGRP will handle VLSM, and IGRP is a classful.
As I see it, EIGRP on the left advertises routes to IGRP in the middle, and
then it would advertise classful routes to EIGRP on the right. I believe
routing information would most likely be lost if the subnets are
discontiguous.
In the second scenario, with different AS, the above would be true but you
would have to manually redistribute between protocols.
