Karl,

Yes, deleting those bkaiu entries in dvipdfm_dl14.map does not affect dvipdfmx. It can still process dvi files containing the Chinese TrueType font (bkaiu). Furthermore, having them in the correct syntax in dvipdfm_dl14.map does not hurt. However, having them in the incorrect syntax in dvipdfm_dl14.map will choke dvipdfmx.

What I request to "correct updmap-sys behaivor" is that at least updmap-sys won't propagate the "incorrect" information about bkaiu into dvipdfm_dl14.map, because it will "choke" dvipdfmx. In my previous example, it results in the deletion of the rest of the font records in dvipdfm_dl14.map and the failure of generating PDF containing typ1 font with "times.sty" package with dvipdfmx.

I don't know how to do a patch. However, I can do whatever I can to assist you to resolve the issue.

By the way, if any of the dvipdfmx team member can say a word on the issue, that will be great.

Regards.

So I gather dvipdfmx uses cid-x.map for CJK information. Ok.

The correction of the updmap-sys behavior is still in need.

For fonts that are in cid-x.map, are dvipdfm_dl14.map entries needed at
all? What if the bkaiu* entries are removed entirely, does it still
work? It would be easier to implement simply omitting the entire entry
for anything in cid-x than to omit part of the entry.

Also, I notice that the entry in cid-x is
[EMAIL PROTECTED]@ unicode :0:bkai00mp.ttf

Can it be counted on that "bkaiu" (ie, everything before the first @)
begins any fontname that should be dealt with specially by updmap?
Otherwise, I don't know how it could be determined.

Overall, I can see already that it's not going to be easy for me to
prepare a change, since I have no simple way to test it, or know when
things are working, or ... Is there any chance you or someone else
there (Werner?) could make a patch?

Thanks,
k
