My father was diagnosed with CML during routine bloodwork about 2 years ago. He is on Gleevec. I've enjoyed reading and learning more about CML.
I've done lots of research and wanted to join this group to learn more. My dad is very private about all of this so I like to know what kinds of questions to ask. My parents live in Ohio and I am in Arizona so I like to keep informed to feel closer to them. It's so hard to be far away sometimes! After his first 1 1/2 years on Gleevec, his white blood count started to raise again so they doubled his dose and that worked. Does this mean that some people will build up a tollerance to the medicine? I know that Gleevec has only been on the market for a few years but does anyone know about studies on how long it works? I've been reading about "super Gleevec" and the Bristol Myers BMS-354825. Sounds very promising. Also I'm curious about the side effects from Gleevec. My dad is often grasping his side like he has some type of pain - is that common? Are there any other common side effects? Thanks for allowing be to learn from all of you. I appreciate it.
