Gary and all, Thanks for all the advice. I was only wondering about the replacement cost if it turned out to be more.
A week ago, she ran fine. Yesterday, I couldn’t get it to turn over. Plenty of cranking from the starter, but no “fire”. We checked and cleaned the air filter, the fuel filters and did a check of all the hoses. Then I checked the oil, which was a gray instead of black. Some research today led me to believe that it’s the head gasket. I’ll get it to the yard and have a pro look at it. I just don’t want to miss too many weeks of sailing/racing. Grrrrr. I had a crack in the head of my Yanmar and removed the head and replaced it with a new one. One (+) boat buck instead of a bunch (did my own work). Or, is the rest of the engine pooped as well?
