The 30 and 35 HP Beta 4 cylinder engines are based on the same Kubota diesel engine as the M35B, so the engine swap would be a relatively easy change out. Different transmission, so maybe a new prop needed, and a different wiring harness adds a bit of complexity but not much. I actually like several things about the Beta better than the M35B, and it was my second choice when I did the new engine for Imzadi in 2010. If I recall, a total engine package using the 35HP Beta was $300-400 less than a complete 36HP M35B from Universal. But using the bobtail M35B as I did saved a grand or more, and left me with a pot full of spares for the new engine to boot. When we did Perceptions they were less than a Yanmar, fit the same bed width ... It all made a big difference in how the engine performed, the exhaust was much less sooty and the transom actually stayed clean for a while.
