The ZEP citrus cleaner worked well!  I used it full strength.

I soaked the parts overnight, cleaned them up with a stiff brush and hot
water, and they were, for the most part, ready to go.  I had to clean the
groves of the gears with a putty knife, but the old grease came off
easily.  Nice to hear the cams click as the winch rotates!

And yes, Fred, the garage has a nice citrus scent!​

Once I get the allen bolt out of the other winch I'll repeat the process.
