Regarding the hatch latch issue, I too, was not happy with those drop hasps, and after seeing a J24 sink like a stone as a squall ran through a big charity regatta here several years ago,
(the cockpit hatch lid opened in a knockdown, and water sucked into the boat through the cockpit seat). I realized my boat could also sink that way in an extreme situation. I looked at a bunch of boats, and also was impressed with the Beneteau cockpit latches, and bought 4. I guess I really liked them, because I only needed one. It is a wonderful piece of hardware, I am looking at one now, the Beneteau Part number is 917520, called a Catch Spring Lock. You can put a little lanyard (Monkey ball) on the inside to open it from the inside. Please don’t kick me off this list guys! They were simple pushbutton to open, spring loaded and automatically lock every time. The pin from inside, can easily be opened if trapped inside. You know the ones that are "upside down" so they close when the lid is down trapping me in the locker. I actually don't mind them because I drape a coil of line or a towel over the opening whenever I'm in the locker and on the boat alone. However, these old hasps probably don't comply with ABYC. The solution is probably some swivel style hasps like these: https://www.hingeoutlet.com/products/s3853-0002 The reason I haven't replaced them or flipped them 180 degrees is because I haven't found any that match or hide the old bolt pattern. Any listers found hasps that fit? Dennis C. Touche' 35-1 #83 Mandeville, LA _______________________________________________ Thanks everyone for supporting this list with your contributions.
