Hi Mike. Yes, those tests are used in Declude, but not at the smtp level.
Declude does not do smtp level scanning. The best way to use Declude and SM
together is to set up those 4 blacklists at the SM smtp level scanning and
use the global.cfg in Declude as is.

Don’t we already use SORBS, SPAMCOP, BARRACUDA and ZEN in Declude?

Is that an efficient synergy?

What’s the best way to use SmarterMail and Delcude together?

Hey guys. Here is what I normally do when setting up checks at SM’s smtp
level. In the Spam Checks area, I add 4 blacklists and give them each a
weight of 10. The lists I use are SORBS, SPAMCOP, BARRACUDA and ZEN. Then in
the SMTP Blocking area, I set my Incoming Weight Threshold to 30 and put a
check in the Enabled box. This means that an incoming connection has to
trigger at least 3 out of the 4 lists to be dropped at the SMTP level. This
has always worked very well for me. I agree that you should never drop
connections or reject email based on one test. I hope this helps.

Brian,

The short answer would be no. If something is checked then email will be
rejected based on triggering that “one” test. That’s a bad idea and you
will rejecting a LOT email, both spam and non-spam. No single test in 100%
right.

What you are looking to do is run a series of tests/filters that in
combination help you determine the likelihood that an email is spam and give
it a weight. You then have several action you can perform on an email once
it has been given a weight. The options and weights are on the “Filtering”
tab in the same Security section David directed you to.

Should anything be checked in “enable for incoming SMTP blocking”?

Declude does not block at SMTP level. What you are seeing is your mail
server blocking the mail, in SM it’s a setting under SecurityàAntispam
Administration à Enable for Incoming SMTP blocking

It is not recommended that you block on 1 RBL only.

Are you sure that this not a rule setup on your mail server and not Declude.

In general Declude does not block at the smtp level but gives weight to
email after it has been received by your email server and handed over to
Declude for testing.
